Over the past six months, I’ve been training for the Taunton Half Marathon alongside the usual demands of work and family life. I’ve chosen to use this challenge to raise funds for RNID (Royal National Institute for Deaf People), an organisation whose work has a genuine impact on the lives of people living with hearing loss and tinnitus. Any donation, no matter the size, will help support their vital work.

The reason for supporting RNID is simple, and important. RNID plays a crucial role in supporting people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or affected by tinnitus — conditions that still don’t receive the understanding or priority they deserve. Their work extends far beyond raising awareness. They provide practical advice and support, campaign for better access and inclusion, and fund research aimed at improving outcomes for those living with hearing loss and tinnitus.

As someone who works closely with people facing these challenges every day, I see just how important RNID’s work is. Hearing loss and tinnitus can affect communication, confidence, mental wellbeing, employment, and relationships — yet many people struggle in silence.

RNID helps give those people a voice, while pushing for meaningful improvements in care, accessibility, and public understanding.

If you’d like to donate and support RNID, every contribution genuinely helps. Whether it’s funding research, improving support services, or strengthening their campaigning work, even a small donation can make a real difference to people living with hearing loss and tinnitus.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and for any support you’re able to give.

Recently, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust announced a new partnership with RNID to expand hearing aid support across the county. Under this initiative, trained volunteers from RNID and the NHS will deliver basic hearing aid repairs, hearing checks, information and signposting in around 200 care homes across Somerset — helping older residents, their families, and care staff access vital support and communication tools. This service also aims to increase awareness of hearing loss and improve confidence in communication among care home colleagues and the wider public, addressing the fact that many people lack confidence when talking with someone who has hearing loss. By improving access to practical support and promoting inclusion, this partnership reflects RNID’s core mission to make everyday life better for people with hearing loss and tinnitus in our communities.
